In my early days at MIT, I worked with Dave Pritchard and Zhongzhou Chen (now at UCF) to create a proof of concept that we called Producer. One of the big challenges with Open edX is re-using course material across multiple offerings. It is basically a very manual, labor-intensive process, with no built-in support in the Open edX platform. There are no easy ways to re-use material, nor to track or aggregate student performance against the same questions, across multiple uses. So we wanted to create a tool to help facilitate the reuse / remix of Open edX content, as well as simplify the analytics process. We presented the first version of the tool at the Learning with MOOCs conference in 2014. We’ve since built a second version from the ground up and are still looking for collaborators.
